Akan National Park (Hokkaido)

Akan National Park, located eastern of Hokkaido,  is the second designated national park in Japan.
Lake Mashu, caldera lake, is a mysterious lake and is called ‘The Lake of Mist’. Though there is no river flowing into or out from Lake Mashu, the water level remains the same. Also, it usually has a thick layer of mist over it making it unable to see.

Lake Mashu has the clearest water in the world and its shade of indigo blue is called "Mashu blue."

Lake Kussharo is the largest caldera lake and the 6th largest lake in Japan.

Iou-zan,  Mount Sulfur, still continues to fume sulphur vigorously.

Tsurumidai is one of the Japanese crane (Red-crowned crane) feeding field in Kushiro Shitugen National Park.

Nowadays Japanese cranes, special natural monument., can be seen throughout the year.
